Preliminary Trip Planning- Summer 2009

Hi all,

I am considering a trip to Nepal for trekking and sightseeing (probably Annapurna?), and after browsing the forums this morning I realized that summer is monsoon season. How bad is it really? Are you still able to trek at all?

Do you think it would it be worth the effort to go there if I only had a few weeks in July?

Thanks!

July is the peak time of the monsoon season. However, it does not mean that there will be rain all the time. And if you are considering Annapurna region, then Jomsom trek might be a good idea. A part of the trek lies in the rain shadow area - behind the mountains and is mostly insulated from rain.

If you do decide to go on the trek, then prepare yourself against the leech as you might encounter some on the way. And a raincoat will certainly be handy at that time of the year.

Hi Bella,

I am afraid July is slap bang in the middle of rainy season alright.

You can still trek. But these days on the APC Jomson side there%26#39;s a lot of construction happening on the road they are building.

A lot will depend on the exact weather at the time you go. For example December is meant to be clear, but with climate change last year is was quite dusty. You might get lucky and have a break in the weather which would mean great dust free views

There are still things you can do. But if you are putting all your eggs in one basket for a trip of a life time, then I would have a rethink about the time of year. Or going, and being prepared for rain.

There%26#39;s some info on Nepal on this blog you might find helpful if you do go www.thelongestwayhome.com

I hope this helps

Dave

Darn. Not exactly what I wanted to hear, but thank you none the less! Guess I%26#39;ll put off my trip for another time.
