Everest Base Camp

Hi any help gratefully received.

Myself and my husband are hoping to trek to Everest Base Camp in November of this year, firstly, is this a good time to go?

- any suggestions on travel preferred travel companies, would prefer to use a local Nepal provider

- how long does the trek take?

- ideally would like to visit other areas in Tibet, any ideas/suggestions - will have about two and an half weeks?

- top tips on what to take?

- if you did the trip again, what would you do differently, or what did you wish you had done?

- have also heard that the Base Camp is a bit of a disappointment, very busy and littered with rubbish and %26#39;other stuff%26#39;. Cant see any comments related to this but would appreciate some feedback

Appreciate any advice anyone can give - thanks :-)

Everest Base Camp

Yes - it%26#39;s a good time to go as the weather is normally dry and the atmosphere clear so the views are superb.

I have put together a list of comapnies that have been recommended by TA posters over the past year: I%26#39;ll happily send you a copy

You could do it more quickly, but 14 days from Kathmandu to Kathmandu is comfortable.

Don%26#39;t know about Tibet, but you won%26#39;t have a lot of time left - why not spend some time getting to see a bit of the Kathmandu Valley, a trip to Bhaktapur, etc ?

What to take ? A very large digital camera memory card, and lots of batteries. Wet wipes. Antiseptic hand-wipe. A willingness to be amazed !

I wouldn%26#39;t bother with Base Camp, a patch of rubble-strewn moraine with a good view of the ice-fall but no view of Everest. Instead from Gorak Shep make the walking ascent of Kala Pattar, a superb viewpoint above Base Camp (if you look at my profile, under %26#39;Contributions%26#39;, %26#39;%26#39;photos%26#39; there%26#39;s the view of Everest from the summit of Kala Pattar - quite magical !)

Everest Base Camp

Hi,

I am new in this forum.

I think its a good time to Everest Base camp in November, I had also got in same time.

In my experience you have two options, either you can book advance or you can find agency when you arrive in Kathmandu. But if I have to suggest you better advance book, see PM I will provide you info of them, which I had booked.

I had finished it in 13 days, normally its finish 10-12 days but I had one day more rest in Namche.

I don%26#39;t think so you can make two programs in 2 and half weeks.

Definitely I agreed with earlier reply that you will need lots of batteries and big memory card.

Ya,I also found very crowd and rubbish and other stuff.

I agree with Alan (as usual). Both Gorek Shep and EBC are dumps. If you fancy a challenge and have 3 weeks to trek consider doing the High Passes trek which is fantastic, especially Cho La pass and Gokyo Ri.

I did the High Passes trek with:

Highland Excursions Nepal Pvt Ltd

PO Box 12733 Baluwater

Kathmandu

Tel 4-413850/4-414783

If you prefer to book through a Western company, World Expeditions use this local company and offer the best package for the High Passes trek.

What to take? My two tips are a very good sleeping bag and, bear with me, a cheap cricket bat and tennis balls picked up in KTM. Honestly, this is the best thing we did. Everytime we got to a village we got the bat and ball out and were an instant hit with the locals and porters! It was great fun. Also had a game at 5000m!
