I%26#39;d trek to the Mount Everest Base Camp region this Nov. The trip was arranged with Himalayan Rock Treks and Expedition. I spoke to the agent, Mr. Rammani Sapkota. The price for this trek is hefty. Within this price, meals were not included. A decent guide, a porter and decent lodges throughout the trek were included.
The turnout was, the guide that was hired placed me in danger. The lodges, which cost less than 1/8 of what I%26#39;d paid, were filthy. When demanded that I stay in the decent lodges [lodges that cost more than $4 per night], the agent refused and stated that he will not earn any profits. Only after several minutes of arguing and reasoning, he then agreed.
During the incident where protestors took over Thailand%26#39;s airport, the agent neither contacted me to notify me of the issue nor to rearrange for another flight. I had to contact him and constantly follow up on what could be done with the flight. The only answer given was ';I will try my best. I%26#39;ll call you back.'; The end result is I had constantly follow up with him and I had to find my own flight.
Basically, this agent only cares about the money. He is very unprofessional.
Horrible Travel Agent from Kathmandu
There are many Trekking Agencies in Kathmandu, some excellent, others, as in your unfortunate experience, not so good.
May I suggest that in future it%26#39;s worth consulting Trip Advisor, as many members have used good agents and would be able to recommen based on personal experience
