What is the typical guidelines regarding tips for porter and guide on a 18 days hike to Mt. Everest Base Camp?

Hi,
I was worried about this when I went to EBC so I asked other trekkers. Most suggested a tip for a guide of about 5-10 USD per day of the trek. I ended up giving my guide about $130 US for our 14 day trek because he was simply wonderful. You can give more or less. The porter would be maybe half that. My guide also carried some of my stuff so it was not necessary to use a porter. Please let me know if you have questions.

Were you part of an organised trek or did you organise the guide %26amp; porter yourself? This amount seems excessive on top of an organised trek.
