buses from kathmandu to pokhara

Just got back yesterday from Nepal, and trekking Gorepani and Poon Hill. I would personally not recommend the local buses. They looked way scary. We hooked up with a guide who arranged a private van for us, with air conditioning, and I felt fine in that. The road from KTM to Pokhara is the biggest highway in Nepal, and I was totally shocked!!! I thought we were on a back roads little mountain trail or something!! There were broken down buses all up and down the road, some of them run off the road into the gutters (huge gutters with this raging HUGE river on the other side). The buses were jam packed with sweating people. No way would I have wanted to been on it. FYI. Also, on the way back to KTm from Pokhara, we opted for a plane. It was fairly cheap - can%26#39;t remember exactly but definitely under a hundred bucks, and took only 25 minutes. It was amazing to fly over the towns/villages, and also to fly above the clouds and see the mountains as well. Definitely worth it, because we were tired after our trek and wanted to get back to civilization (KTM), and did NOT want to do another 6 hour bus ride. . . .

Hi,

How did you find a driver from kathmandu to pokara and how much did it cost?

Also, we would like to do a 2-3 day trek from Pokara, to see some good mountain scenery. Do you have a recommendation? Guide?

Thanks

Dear Kiran

There are more than 5 tourist bus kathamndu- pokhara- kathamndu . One is greenline bus which coust u $18 per person for one way %26amp; other normal tourist bus is couts around $5-7 per person. You may catch in kanthipath in 06:oo am - 07:30am .near thamel.

A car ride from Kathmandu to Pokhara costs around Rs. 7,000 (around 90 dollars) for one way trip and will cost an additional Rs. 1500 ($ 20) for overnight stay.

There are several car rental services that operate from Kathmandu. Clean Kantipur Vehicle (Phone 98510-79370; Shaymu Sapkota)is one of them and I generally use them for my trips outside Kathmandu when a car rental is required. The people in the company are very professional.

Greenline is the luxury bus service from KTM - PKR; leaves from it%26#39;s own office in Thamel (tourist area) not far from traffic lights at Kantipath opp Garden of Dreams around 7am/7.30am, includes free mineral water and free lunch (Nepali buffet) at Riverside Resort and arrives in Pokhara between 2-4pm - costs have increased lately, prob around USD18

There are many other tourist buses that are cheaper - Swiss Travels is a reliable one i have travelled on about 8 times now - cost about NPR600 one way. All the tourist buses leave from Kantipath (all lined up in front of each other as you walk down the line to find yours).

Any travel agent could also book you a seat on a tourist minivan at similar cost

Don%26#39;t use local buses for this route, they are not much cheaper than tourist buses, not safe or well maintained, take ages as they continually stop to pick up passengers and very overcrowded. You%26#39;ll find many Nepali%26#39;s also using the tourist bus for this reason.

If you want to try local bus, hop on one of the ones within Pokhara itself
