Wondering about safety for travellers in Kathmandu and Nepal. We are booked to arrive early June for 2 weeks and plan to tour with a private guide. We have been watching the unrest on the news.
Kathmandu - safe or not.

There are a number of other posts on that forum about safety in Nepal. It seems the Nepal TripAdvisor forum doesn%26#39;t get much traffic.
Kathmandu - safe or not.
Thank you jerm
Still feeling very apprehensive.
Cheers
Hi
I know its not the same as an update from nepal. but it can be worth looking at our govt website www.fco.gov.uk which has a travellers advice section that they keep updated very regularly with the latest developments. This is what all UK travel companies base their decisions to pull trips (or not) on.
Currently, it is not safe for tourists. It is wise to delay or even cancel your trip unless there is complete a stop of the violence.
Well, now it is safe to travel in Nepal. Get in touch with the locals to know more... yeah it is true you can travel without worries.
Doodstar you should be fine visiting in June, unless there is a return to the type of violence and unrest there was for the last 3 weeks. Which is not very likely.
I join all Nepalis in wishing for peace and progress now forward in Nepal- the most gorgeous country.
also , I don%26#39;t reccomend putting too much weight on Travel Advisories issued by Govts. They are usually unfair and not a real reflection of whats happening on the ground.
I arrived in Kathmandu on the 26th of March before the tranportation/curfew was set. I then hiked to base camp and returned back to the city on the 11th of April when the curfew and the trasportation strike was occuring. Yes, it was a little difficult to find a ride back to the hotel from the airport, but they had taxi%26#39;s set apart for the use of ';tourists only'; There were no one on the streets except for guards which will not hurt the tourists. They love tourists....we even played frisbee with a truck full of guards. Just be careful and don%26#39;t be stupid. Their economy rely%26#39;s on the tourists. We came across a riot and they all stopped and waved as us. They love you! I think you will be perfectly fine and safe.
I hope to be going to Kathmandu in October.I have never been before but have always wanted to go.---So:
1. Is October a good time to go ?
2. Is Kathmandu the best place to base myself?
3. What other Cities/Towns/Places would you suggest I go?.
I will only have 2 weeks remember.
4. Any tried and tested Hotels anyone?
Anyhow I would be grateful for information regards the above.
Pushpa---love the name---maybe I can contact you direct?. I see you left your e--mail address.
Thanks again.
Liam.
