Questions by first timers in Kathmandu

My friends are going to Kathmandu for a seminar early next month and will have an extra day for sightseeing. They are on their 20%26#39;s. What places do you suggest they visit, the weather there now, and what are the must buys? Would appreciate your inputs...

My %26#39;not to be missed%26#39; sights are:

Boudnath Stupa (go late afternoon/early evening)

Garden of Dreams

A wander around Thamel

Pashputinath Temple

That would easily fill up a day. Most people would suggest Swayambunath (Monkey Temple) but I really do not like it there. The monkeys can be aggressive too.

Have a great time!

I would add the beautiful Durbar square with all the different temples and palaces, just sit and look around.

If have time extra a day visit Patan and Bhadgaon

that is cool

Thanks guys for your suggestions! Any must buy itiem/souvenir from Nepal?

yes tons of gorgeous souvenirs... wander around Thamel or Patan Square (in my opinion far more grand than Darbar sq) and you%26#39;ll encounter many shops selling wonderful items

These posts were from last year....I am eager to hear how your trip went....any suggestions for novice travelers, as myself?

I just came back from Kathmandu. If you%26#39;re going there, pls bring a few torchlights. They are having a 16-hour load-shedding, this means only 8 hours of electricity a day. And the timing can vary, the electricity just go off, even in the middle of the night. In the nights, the rooms can be very cold, I had to wear 3 layers of sweaters to sleep !
