Traveling alone to Nepal

I am planning to go to Nepal before my time in Tibet, this will happen in July. I want to know if it safe or dangerous to travel around Kathmandu alone and as a female?

Or do you recommend touring with a tour group? If you do suggest that, what are some good tour groups I should look into?

I would like to go on a 10-day Everest tour and explore Kathmandu.

Thank you!

Traveling alone to Nepal

Hello - I am a single white female (!!) and I travelled around nepal alot whilst I was living there. I never felt threatened or lonely. It is one of the safest and friendliest countries I%26#39;ve been to.

If you stay in Thamel you will meet other travellers that you can travel with.

Don%26#39;t worry go for it!1

I just returned from Nepal. I am a female and I travelled alone. I did the Everest Base Camp trek and spent about 5 days in Nepal on my own.

I was a bit nervous at first in Kathmandu as I did get a lot of stares, but I eventually just got used to it and felt very comfortable. Nobody approached me aggressively or in a negative way. The Nepali people are lovely and kind so you should have no problems!! I hired a great guide for about 3 days (Prakash Aryal - prakash_aryalb@yahoo.com) and saw so many things in Kathmandu with him. I hired him simply for the sake of getting around quicker as I had so little time there and there was so much to see :)!

If you are walking around Thamel by yourself it%26#39;s a bit nervewracking, but that really has nothing to do with being female - it%26#39;s that everyone wants to sell you something - all tourists go through that :)!

In the Everest Region I felt incredibly safe. They are so used to tourists up there that a female on here own is really nothing out of the extraordinary. The Sherpa families were wonderful and always smiling.

My trip to Nepal was incredible and I hope to go back someday!

Hello A,

Definately, you can do alone by yours but if you have first timer, better you will take tour operators.

If you willing to do alone you can use some guide book, this will be useful for you.

This link wil helpful for your to querry of your curisity, http://www.omegatreks.com

best of luck.

normally it is quite safe to travel around Kathmandu alone, even for females. You can also reduce risk of being hassled by dressing conservatively (ie no shorts, singlet tops etc) even tho it could be hot in July.

On your 10 day Everest trek, i recommend going with a guide or joining up with a group (which should be very easy to do); this is safer in case of accident/sickness while trekking and on rare occasions lone trekkers have been assaulted.
