I am will be traveling to Nepal in Oct 2009 and mt trip ends in Pokhara. I have the option of a bus trip or flight back to Kathmandu.I%26#39;m not sure which is the best option.
Will the bus trip be safe for lone female traveler?
Approx how long would it take?
Also, is Nepal in general and Kathmandu city, safe for the lone female traveler ie; walking around to visit the attractions during the day, dining at Restaurants?
To fly or take bus from Pokhara to Kathmandu?

To fly or take bus from Pokhara to Kathmandu?
The bus is obviously much cheaper, and a Nepalese bus trip is an experience . . . . but in all one best avoided particularly as it will cost a day of your visit - assume a six-hour trip at least.
The flight from Pokhara takes about half an hour - be sure to sit on the left side as it gives superb views of the Annapurna, Manaslu, Ganesh, and Langtang Himals - I think it%26#39;s well worth the cost.
As to safety, the following is from a recent post by amandakerr (from Vancouver):
%26#39;I just returned from Nepal. I am a female and I travelled alone. I did the Everest Base Camp trek and spent about 5 days in Nepal on my own.
I was a bit nervous at first in Kathmandu as I did get a lot of stares, but I eventually just got used to it and felt very comfortable. Nobody approached me aggressively or in a negative way. The Nepali people are lovely and kind so you should have no problems!!
If you are walking around Thamel by yourself it%26#39;s a bit nervewracking, but that really has nothing to do with being female - it%26#39;s that everyone wants to sell you something - all tourists go through that :)!%26#39;
Cheers
Alan
If you travel by bus take a tourist bus, these usually leave Pokhara around 7-7.30am and arrive in Kathmandu by 2-3.30pm, are cheap and completely safe for lone female traveller. They can easily be booked from Pokhara even the day before and are plenty to choose from. I%26#39;ve done the trip about 15 times now (both alone and with friends), usually travel by Swiss Travels bus which is very reliable, but most are good.
Flying takes about half an hour, at that time of year you should get excellent views of Himalayan range from plane (sit on left side), but is more expensive than bus.
The bus trip also scenic, through small bazaars, rural landscape, alongside river for a lot of the way and on clear days can see Himalayan range from left side of bus. The road is windy at times but very good.
dining at restaurants, walking around Pokhara and Kathmandu during day, visiting most attractions is very safe for lone female traveller. But take some care if you plan to walk alone in more isolated areas - even walking alone through forest up to the Peace Stupa on the other side of lake in Pokhara or through the villages up the hill to Sarangkot in Pokhara some tourists have been mugged - not common, but it can happen. in the city and where other people are around is very safe
you enjoy your trip!
I traveled alone for 2 weeks a few years ago as a 25 year old woman and I never had a problem. The bus trip from Kathmandu to Pokhara was very memorable...it was one of the most beautiful rides I%26#39;ve ever taken!
we have just got back last week - family of 4 the bus is the best way cheap and a beautiful drive - saw loads of female travellers just use common sence -
