Kathmandu safety

We are planning a trip in early June 2009. is it safe in kathmandu? do we need a driver?

Kathmandu safety

It is perfectly safe to travel to Kathmandu. There is not much you need to worry about in Kathmandu. You might need to cope with the hours of load shedding but it is expected that they will be better than what it is at the moment - 16 hours of blackouts.

It is not compulsory for you to have a driver. But if you want to have someone help you to take you to the places you want to visit, then have one. They might be able to tell you something about the sites you are visiting. If you are hiring a car, then it is better to do from car rental agencies that rent out cars to tourists and others.

Kathmandu safety

We, a family of 2 adults and 2 young children, felt very safe during our trip to Kathmandu in Feb 09. We walked on the busy streets and felt safe except for a few curious stares. If you are traveling with young children then it is advisable to stay in better hotels as there would be no power cut.

It is better to have a driver and car to drive you around, if possible, request for car with air-condition.
